Bring your markers and crayons and let’s draw planets, the Moon and more with Teacher! Building upon our original space exploration class, our space club will cover a more in-depth look at our solar system including information about each of the topics we cover. Week 1 – Mars, Moon Buggy/Lunar Rover, Inner Planets and Shuttle Launch Week 2 – Jupiter. International Space Station, Astronomers/Telescopes, Outer Planets Week 3 – Neptune, Mercury, Solar System Week 4 – Sun, Solar Flares & Sun Spots + Aurora Borealis / Learner’s Imagined Space Creatures Pending the Teacher’s Schedule and Learner Enrollment, additional weeks may be added and could cover: Week 5 – Asteroids, Uranus Week 6 – Planetariums, Mission Control, Green Bank Observatory / Quiet Zone Week 7 – Hubble Telescope, Falling Stars, Space Junk and/or Centrifuge Week 8 – Pluto, Solar or Lunar Eclipse, Space Creatures Week 9 – Galaxy, Constellation, UFOs Week 10 -Craters, Subjects to Study in School (Physics, Chemistry, Math), Astronauts Week 11 – Venus, Black Holes, Earth’s Seasons Week 12 – Voyager Mission – Outer Planets Path, Golden Record and Discoveries Found Week 13 – Cassini Mission – Saturn, Enceladus and Titan (Dragonfly mission) and End of Mission Week 14 – Gallileo Mission – Jupiter, IO (volcanic activity), Europa (Icy Crust) – Ida and Dactyl, Week 15 – Mars Rovers -Mars Pathfinder (Sojourner) Spirit and Opportunity, Perserverance (Mars 2020) Week 16 -Apollo 11, Project Apollo, / Star Shot (Space chips sent to nearest star), Alpha Centauri Week 17 – Space Food and Sleeping in Space Week 18 – Rockets/Shuttles and Ham the Chimpanzee Week `19 – Kuiper Belt and Exoplanets Week 20 – Sputnik and Earth In this class, learners will continue to build on our space exploration class by talking about the earth, planets and other space objects. Students will be able to creatively use their imagination to draw the objects and share them in class. Learners will get the opportunity to comment on the teacher’s drawings as well. Learners may interact with the puppets from class in order to help prompt discussion. Learners are encouraged to draw their own interpretation of the objects we discuss. Learners are encouraged to understand how to “unmute” if called upon in class as occasionally we will have to use the “mute all” function if there is excessive background noise. Depending on how many learners are enrolled in each of our meetings, our goal is to cover 2 to 5 topics for each meeting. The clubs have a range of 2 to 12 weeks +/-, where each the topics starts over after the meetings are finished. For instance, after week 16, we start back over to week 1, unless we extend it to more meetings. Most of our classes are listed under the “Arts” or “Life Skills” categories, so my goal is to inspire learners to use their imagination and curiosity when drawing rather than a class that presents specific facts. We utilize a casual drawing atmosphere rather than instruction on the specifics of drawing technique or artistic technique. Most of our classes utilize a digital timer from the teacher’s screen, giving each learner a few minutes to draw and then share their drawing if they would like to. It is okay if they do not finish the drawing or if they want to keep drawing the previous topic while other learners continue drawing. We usually will share our drawings with the class and then move to the next topic after most learners have finished sharing. The order for each week may vary and the lists may combine pending unforeseen circumstances.
